What happens to an animal cell placed in a hypotonic environment? Explain.

A hypotonic environment means that the water concentration is greater outside the cell.  The electrolyte concentration is greater inside the cells.

To create a balance water will move into the cell.   However water can continue to enter the cell until it bursts.
