The Greenhouse Project is a project sponsored by a company called New York Sun Works that aims to open 100 greenhouse classrooms throughout New York City, not just Manhattan. However, the Manhattan School for Children (PS 333) was the location of its first greenhouse, and it opened in fall 2010. This greenhouse, known as the Sun Works Center for Environmental Studies, teaches students from kindergarten to 8th grade using technologies such as hydroponic vegetable farming, solar panels, and worm composting. Overall, this project’s goals are to provide a quality science education for inner-city children and “empower our students to make informed choices about their impact on their community and the world.”
