Besides using LED lights and making sure to reduce all waste, education is key. If students understand the issues and impacts of reducing energy consumption, they are much more likely to practice a more green lifestyle in and out of school.
I’d say we can go one step further: by using natural lighting… How were people educated prior to the invention of the lightbulb — by using sunlight! We just need to use a technological boost and see to it that the light is redirected into classrooms (anyone ever heard of a mirror before? — how cool would that be if a school had no need for lights whenever it was bright outside?) We can also see to it that school buildings have more efficient heating and cooling systems… this is a major challenege, but people are paving the way in the field by producing better insulation and more efficient designs.
