At this website http://www.wikihow.com/Recycle-Old-Computer-Hard-Drives there is a list of steps you can use in order to dismantle it into its basic parts; motor, magnet, aluminum etc. Then you can take what you can to a recycling center and the rest do something creative to turn it into art.
Some companies will do hard drive destruction. For example, All Green Electronics Recycling has one level of data destruction that physically shreds the hard drive (this level is certified by the US Department of Defense). They will even send you a video of the hard drive being destroyed.
