Traditional gasoline-powered lawn mowers are a major source of smog and other air pollutants in many areas, while at the same time contributing to global warming by consuming oil. The greenest way to mow your lawn is simply to use a manual push-mower. Manual mowers create no pollution when you use them, and in addition are extremely quiet (for a lawn mower). Finally, mowing the lawn manually is a great way to get some productive exercise on a nice day! However, if your lawn is too big to manage with a manual mower, the next best choice is an electric mower. Electric mowers still pollute – though the pollution comes from the power plant producing the electricity, not out of the mower itself. However, they are more friendly to the environment than a gasoline-powered mower.
