What is the greenest major sporting event ever?

It’d have to be something like bike-riding or field hockey which requires no motor, no buiding, (just a field or a roadway; but wait roads take asphalt to be built and that is certainly not green, so let me change that to mountain-biking) and no temperature control equipment. And a small local fan-base—the superbowl would not count even though it’s outdoors and the stadium isn’t climate controlled, because so many people travel to it from very far away and that leaves a carbon trail! Good question. My answer is a made up one, but: the Vermont, Mountain-Biking Finals, where everyone showed up on foot and no one had left a powered motor running or even had an electronic device on them whatsoever!

Ever?  Probably the first Olympics in ancient Greece.
