When it comes to constructing houses, using wood may actually be kinder to the environment than relying on steel, concrete and other materials usually considered more environmentally friendly, according to a study recently released by the Consortium on Renewable Industrial Materials, a nonprofit corporation made up of 15 research universities.
Using a typical house in Minnesota as a test subject, researchers involved in the study determined that wood framing used 17 percent less energy than steel construction.
