What is the green house effect?

The greenhouse effect is the idea that the gases in our atmosphere like water vapor, CO2, nitrous oxide, and methane trap energy from the sun, keeping our earth warm.  Without the greenhouse effect, our earth would be about 60 degrees colder on average which would cause much more of the water on earth to be frozen and making it much more difficult to live.  A smaller scale example would be like the inside of a car.  The windows let in light, but the car doesn’t let heat escape, which causes it to heat up.  That is basically what the greenhouse gases do, just on a much larger scale.

The greenhouse effect is basically the increase of the earths temperature due to the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These gases include carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane.
