The Pacific Garbage Patch contains a variety of debris, most of which is plastic. Some of the trash floating in the ocean includes plastic bottles, fishing nets, buckets, containers, and plastic chairs. There are also tons of small items like bottle caps, toothbrushes, styrofoam cups, polystyrene packaging and plastic bags. All of these items simply float on the ocean, because they do not biodegrade.
This monstrosity is made up of billions of tiny pieces of floating plastic – garbage from Asia’s east coast and North America’s west coast. Most of this plastic comes from plastic bags, bottle caps, plastic water bottles, and Stryofoam.
