Peppers will grow the best in warm soil that drains well and has good tilth. This means it should have a good balance of sand, clay and organic matter. A good ratio for home gardening that should work well for pepper would be 1:1:1 of compost, soil and vermiculite. This combination will provide the proper nutrients for your peppers or just about any other herb or vegetable you are looking to plant. Enjoy!
