What is a good ratio of buck to doe for a healthy deep population?

Most agree that in order to sustain stable populations of deer, particularly those that are being hunted for sport as those in North America are, there should be about 2.5 does per 1 buck. Additionally, there should be an average of .75 fawns per doe born each year in order for the population to remain stable.
