Honestly heat will do it. You can clean your grill by just turning it on and closing the lid. the heat will burn off all the fat and nasty stuff stuck to it.
Another thing is just to submerge your grill plates in warm water. You wont need soap or anything. Let them sit in the water for a long time and when you pull them out you will be able to just wipe off all the gunk on it.
This requires no use of chemicals at all!
Baking soda and ammonia are also amazing cleaners. They can remove burnt food, grease, pretty much anything! Heat the grill before you add the solution. Happy cleaning!
