There are many different options for eco-friendly generators.  According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the average American home uses 920 kilowatt hours per month, which is about 30.6 kilowatts per day, or 1.2 kilowatts per hour.  If you aren’t going to be there year round, you probably won’t this much power, but it really depends on your power needs.

There is a propane powered generator here that would provide about half of the average power used per household. http://www.amazon.com/Champion-Friendly-Propane-Powered-Generator/dp/B0033EWSQ4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1276300054&sr=8-2

If the area around your home receives a lot of wind, you can install a few wind turbines that would provide plenty of power for your residence year round, and there’s no additional cost for fuel. http://www.amazon.com/SunForce-Watt-Land-Wind-Generator/dp/B002KN5FSW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1276300056&sr=8-6  This would be the most cost efficient option, the most quiet, and the most environmentally friendly.

I hope this helps and the type of generator you choose really depends on your power needs.
