There are various options to using traditional drain cleaners, which often contain manmade chemicals. Snaking a drain will usually clear up the problem, or use a baking soda and vinegar mix, following by boiling water. Earth Friendly Products also has a drain cleaner that is environemtnally friendly.
I highly suggest you snake your drain before trying any cleaning products. Odds are, once you snake it, whatever was clogging the drain will be pulled out and you wont need to try anything else. You can also try using a plunger. From there you can try vinegar and baking soda, salt and boiling water, or Powdered Detergent, Baking Soda, and Vinegar. Go to the following website for more information.
For an eco-friendly drain cleaner you can use on a regular basis, pour 4 liters of boiling water and a half (1/2) cup of salt down the drain. Do this on a regular basis to prevent worse clogs. If the clogs is really bad, pour a 1/4 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed quickly with a 1/2 cup of white wine vinegar. Immediately close the drain. When the fizzing stops, pour hot water down the drain.
