Since they are a very new concept, I have no idea what the best one would be. It seems that diesel/electric hybrids are being produced by a few specialty manufacturers much like the all-electric Tesla Roadster was produced in 2007 before the other auto manufacturers caught on. Volkswagen is the largest auto manufacturer that was considering building a diesel/electric hybrid, but apparently they just dropped the ball on that. The two diesel/electric hybrids that are available look very strange, and this is probably because the companies that made them went all out on making them aerodynamic so that they would be even more efficient. They are also very small. I don’t know what your particular needs are, but you might want to consider building your own from a car with a burnt-out engine if you want something more serious.
