What is a good cat to own in a small apartment?

There are certain breeds that are more adaptable to a life indoors, and in small spaces.  Be aware, however, that if you get a long-haired cat you will need to groom it and keep up with the dusting and vacuuming for all the shedding the cat will do.  It you want a long-haired, Ragdolls have long hair but they shed less than other long-haired cats, so that’s something to consider.  However, even short haired cats can produce a lot of hair, especially during the warmer months when they tend to shed more.  A small space will get dirtier/hairier more quickly if you are a cat owner, so be prepared to do a thorough cleaning at least once a week.  If you are considering getting a cat it is more humane to get it from a shelter – those homeless kitties need a nice home with lots of love!
