While we may have a nice image of cows, pigs and chickens out grazing on a farm, the reality of the meat that lands on our plates, it that their meals were not nearly so glamorous. Animal factories have been searching for ways to cut back on cost, even if that means feeding the animals things that are not good for them, or the humans who will consume them. Current laws allow pigs, chickens and turkeys to be feed rendered (bad and old) and then when they pass to be feed back to cattle; it is a loophole that can allow infectious agents into healthy animals. Feeder food may also contain cattle manure, swine waste and poultry litter, plastics and drugs and chemicals.
