Rock get there shape from two contrasting forces formation and weathering. For example crystals get they shape from they way their molecules arrange them selves as it forms. Likewise metamorphic rocks maybe be flat and thin due to the extreme pressure in which they were formed. Conversely, you will find rocks that have been exposed to the elements for a long time and changed same due to the abrasive action of wind or water. A great example of this are river rocks; they are smooth and round because the water and the movement has worn off all their sharp edges. Another element is the composition of the rock, or what it’s made of, but this will primarily have it’s effect through the two processes discussed above.
