Akvavit, meaning water of life in medieval Latin, is distilled using wither grains or potatoes in the same manner that vodka is. It is subsequently flavored with a number of different herbs and spices including dill, caraway seeds, anise, coriander, or “grains of paradise”, all of which can give the drink a unique flavor.
