What is the giant panda’s life cycle?

An infant panda is 1/900 its mother’s size, and depend on their mothers for their first few months.  After 8 or 9 months they are completely weaned and leave their mother when she next conceives, at about 18 months.  Pandas live about 14-20 years in the wild and up to 30 years in captivity.

Pandas also have relatively difficult reproduction cycles as mothers are only fertile between about age 5 to 20.  They generally have about 5 cubs in their lifetime.  While pandas usually have one or two cubs at a time, the record for panda cub births in captivity was 14.  However, none of those cubs survived.
