Genome sequencing is a laboratory process that determines the complete DNA sequence of an organism’s genome at a single time – chromosomal DNA, mitochondrial DNA, and DNA in chloroplast (for plants).
To carry out the sequencing of the genome, scientists cut the DNA up into short fragments, sequenced these fragments simultaneously, and then assembled the entire genome by using sophisticated computer techniques to match the fragments to each other.
