It’s somewhat unclear right now. There’s a lot of political lobbying on both sides right now. Some advocate nuclear as a clean, reliable energy source. Others focus on the downsides like the high upfront cost of the plant, the problem of getting rid of the waste, and the risk of nuclear proliferation. However, it’s unarguable that nuclear power is much less carbon intensive than coal and natural gas, and I think that this will ensure it has a place in the future of our energy supply, if not a very big one.
