There are a number of ancient faults along the eastern seaboard that have been inactive for all of recorded history. The largest recorded earthquake on the east coast was the Cape Ann Earthquake NW of Boston, MA, in 1755, with a magnitude of about 5.9.
Recently earthquakes have been felt in Illinois and Missouri. The New Madrid fault in Missouri causes trembles regularly.
Earthquakes are recorded in New York every year. A large one happened in 1944. The largest earthquake in Maine was in 1904, and a 1997 earthquake in Quebec was felt throughout Maine.
The answer to the question is that every state in the US experiences earthquakes, and in the far east (New England) felt quakes are not especially uncommon, though of course nothing like California’s frequency.
