What is the function of cells?

Cells are the basic structural unit in all living organisms from plants to humans. Each and every cell contains the same components, including the organisms DNA, stored safely in the nucleus. Cells refer to their DNA in order to structure themselves into the part of the organism they are to be, whether that be a kidney cell in a human or a root cell in a plant. Cells together make up the individual organs or parts of the organism which as a whole, work together to sustain life.
