There is a hypothesis that the CO2 from when corn ethanol burns is canceled out by the next crop of corn for ethanol production, which sweeps the air of CO2. However, this hypothesis does not account for the CO2 from production and processing. Versus gasoline, ethanol would only reduce the overall carbon footprint by 20%.
