They are a family of deep sea anglerfish found in more tropical water of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans.
The Footballfish (Himantolophus groenlandicus) was the first deep-sea angler fish ever discovered. They are found in the tropical and temperate parts of all oceans and are an extreme example of sexual dimorphism. Females are typically 15 times the size of males (60 cm long v. 4.0 cm long)! Unlike other angler fish, however, the male footballfish is not believed to be parasitic.
