Wile Flamigos eat algae, small insects, and small crustaceans like shrimp. These foods are rich in beta-carotene and give flamingos their pinkish color.
Not all flamingos are the same. The slight differences in the shape of their bills actually has an impact on what they eat. Still, for the most part, flamingos enjoy a diet of seeds, algae, crustaceans (such as shrimp), and mollusks (such as snails). Flamingos get their bright colors as a result of their diets containing high levels of alpha and beta carotene.
An interesting note is that flamingos tend squash their food up into bits to be mixed with the water before they consume their meal.
