Shark finning is the process of cutting off a shark’s fins and returning the still living animal back into the ocean. They return the shark because the meat is much less valuable than the fins, which are used to make shark fin soup, an Asian delicacy. In some cases, all of the shark’s fins are cut off. This means that the shark cannot swim, and will eventually drown or starve to death.
