The fastest swimming shark is reported to be the shortfin mako (Isurus oxyrinchus). Shortfin makos can swim up to speeds as high as 20mph. Shortfin makos have also been recorded to jump out of the water at heights up to 20 feet in the air.
Mako and Blue sharks are considered to be the fastest. There hasn’t been a lot of research done on their speed, but it has been reported that they can reach speeds of 60 mph. However, 22 mph is a more accepted estimate at which they swim. The Blue Shark even holds the record for the largest litter – one was found with 135 pups in her uterus.
