The fastest train in the world is the CRH2 model, exported from China. It is a modification of the E 2-1000 series. They can go from about 300 to 350 km/hr.
The speed record for trains was set by Japan’s experiemental “Maglev” train. It reached a breakneck 581 kilometers per hour during a test run in Yamanashi Prefecture. This new model of train uses magnetic levitation and propulsion to reach such high speeds traveling Japan’s rails. This eliminates speed-reducing friction as well as noise. The United States as well as Germany are in works to develop trains with similar “maglev” propulsion systems.
