Both the Mako Shark (genus Isurus) and Blue Shark (Prionace glauca) are considered the fastest sharks.
There are two species of Mako Shark, shortfin mako and longfin mako. They generally are 2-2.6m in length and can swim with sustained speeds of 35 km/hr with burst over 80 km/hr.
The Blue Shark can also swim at speeds of 35 km/hr, and some say it can reach up to 97 km/hr. They are generally 3.8 m in length.
Here is a video showing the Mako’s explosive speed.
