    The fastest recorded time for a human swimmer is 5.05 miles per hour. This was set by David Holmes Edgar in 1975. This is currently in the books for the Guinness Book of World Records. Currently one of the fastest swimmers today is Michael Phelps who has shattered 37 records while swimming for the United States in the Olympics.
