Crabs are in the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Arthropoda, Subphylum Crustacea, Class Malacostraca and belong to the order Decapoda. There are several different families that different crabs belong to. An example is the Family Cancridae, also known as Edible Crabs. Another example of a family of crab is Family Grapsidae, or Shore Crabs, that reside in exposed reefs.
Crabs fall into several families (if you are talking about the Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, specius classifications). Edible crabs are in the family Cancridae, shore crabs are in the family Grapsidae, swimming crabs are in the family Portunidae and there are several more families.
