There’s nothing unusual about China. They just simply have a lot of people because it’s a large country with many food resources. One difference in China is that in the last years the government has tried to control the birth rate.
So the reasons for birth rate are much the same as anywhere. People like sex, people like kids, people like families. People like the security of having lots of kids to take care of them in their old age. Also, in poorer communities, children mean free labor! Feed a kid a couple hundred bushels of food … no problem! … by the time they are 7 or 8, they will have “paid” for themself working in the same fields that fed them!
