What evidence is there that greenhouse gases cause global warming?

The evidence for global warming caused by greenhouse gas emission is extensive and comes from many different by atmospheric and climate scientists.  Though some people will try to convince you that there is a lot of scientific uncertainty about the evidence for global warming, that is not at all true.  The problem is that fossil fuel industries and their allies have engaged in a well-funded and strategic campaign to spread misinformation about climate science and convince the public that global warming is not an established fact.  The overwhelming majority of non-industry-affiliated climate scientists whose work is published in peer-reviewed journals agree that global warming is a real and imminent threat.  A great resource for some of the specific reasons researchers believe global warming to be real is the Union of Concerned Scientists, cited at the link below.
