An equinox is when the tilt of the Earth is not inclined toward or away from the sun but rather the sun is vertically above a point on the equator. During an Equinox, the length of daytime and nighttime is almost the same. An equinox happens two times of the year around March 20/21 and September 22/23.
The vernal equinox this year will take place on March 20, 2010, at 1:32 P.M. EST. The etemology of the word stems from the meaning “equal night”, where dya time and night are the same length. There are various religious, spiritual and social celebrations surrounding the equinox to celebrate the arrival of spring.
