What is the environmental importance of Adams Bridge?

Adam’s bridge or Rama’s bridge, a chain of limestone shoals of the Southeast coast of India, is composed of a number of coral reefs which houses diverse forms of marine life. There is a notable population of rare and endangered sea-cucumbers in one of the reefs along the bridge. Occasionally, the Indian government has proposed canal dredging projects in the area, which are fiercely opposed by environmental groups.
