What is the environmental impact of underwater quakes?

Good question.  Earthquakes that arise from underwater plate movement can cause tsunamis. Tsunamis can have damaging effects to the ocean and land creatures.  Tsunamis can damage coral reefs which are a habitat for many other ocean dwellers.  Once the tsunami reaches land, depending on the size, it can reach natural habitats for land animals (including humans) disrupting their ability to find homes and food.  Additionally, as in the big tsunami in Indonesia, the flow of the water back into the ocean can bring with it all sorts of debris which is unsafe for the sea life.
