What is the environmental effect of a cell phone?

The manufacturing process itself already has the equivalent energy usage as 10.5 gallons of gasoline and equivalent carbon emissions as 6.8 gallons of gas, on average. From there, a year’s use of the average cell phone emits as much carbon as 12 gallons of gas. If you don’t recycle the phone, then that’ll add a lot to its carbon footprint as well.
