Maintaining an indoor ski part at below freezing temperature when it is 80 or more degrees outside comes at a huge cost to the environment. However, Ski Dubai is a very energy efficient building, with tons of insulation, which, hopefully, offsets some of the environmental impact of building a ski resort in such a hot region. Ski Dubai also says that it couples melting snow in Ski Dubai with the Mall of Emirates air conditioning system in order to minimize energy use. Of course, this is all relative. And, not building a ski resort in Dubai in the first place would minimize energy use even further. However, Dubai is characterized by excess, and Ski Dubai is just another example of that.
