An energy tax is a tax placed on an energy source that has the potential to be environmentally damaging.  The tax is an attempt to encourage either energy conservation or alternative energy.  Obama’s energy tax is considered a broad tax and is a much criticized tax.  According to one sourec, the energy tax will have major effects on “every American who fills a gas tank, pays an electric bill, or buys any product that has to be grown, shipped, or manufactured.”
