What is an endemic species?

    In conservation, an endemic species is typically a species found only in a certain place.  For example, lemurs are only found in Madagascar, and thus are endemic to that island.

    Endemic species are those that exist in only one place, and are likely to have evolved in island habitats.  Endemic species are often more likely to face endangerment or extinction because of their isolation.  Here is a list of 9 that are representative of endemic species.
