The one other ingredient typically added to table salt is a source of iodine, to help people get the daily supply they need: not getting enough iodine in the diet can lead to thyroid problems and intellectual disabilities. Salt may also contain a preservative for the iodine, and an anti-caking agent to keep the salt from clumping together. Ironically, the stabilizer for the iodine compound is sometimes glucose, a sugar.
