What else is mined in the U.S., besides coal?

Many other metals are mined in various places across the States, including nickel, iron, uranium, aluminum, and gold. Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, the Dakotas, and other nearby states have active and important mining industries.

The other answer has some errors – there is no aluminum mining in the US, and the only small nickel production is as byproducts from refineries – not mines. But we also mine dozens of additional materials, including salt, gypsum, talc, zinc, phosphate rock, soda ash, potash, and many other mineral commodities.
