Do you mean gel electrophoresis? This is a method used in DNA analysis for separating DNA molecules. Typically there is a gel that contains wells at the top where extracted DNA is placed. An electric current flows over the gel, the negative terminal being at the head where the DNA was placed. The proteins migrate toward the positive end of the terminal, and the DNA (which has been dyed) leaves behind a pathway that can then be analyzed.
Electrophoresis is the process in which molecules, like DNA and proteins, are separated according to size and electrical charge by applying a current to them.
