Smoking marijuana can increase your appetite (i.e.: the munchies), and thus for some people can lead to weight gain. In fact, supporters of medical marijuana cite its success in stimulating the appetites for HIV patients who suffer from fatigue and AIDS wasting (involuntary loss of 10% of one’s body weight, frequent diarrhea). If you have been smoking and working out like you say for some while and haven’t seen dramatic change in your physique, you probably won’t run into weight gain problems.
One study found that smoking marijuana affects multple parts of the endocrine system. It has a suppressive effect on the reproductive hormones, prolactin, growth hormone, and thyroid axis (which regulates metabolism), and it activates the HPA axis (between the hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenal glands that controls reactions to stress.) The same study found that “abnormal sperm morphology has been noted in chronic smokers.”
