What effect does Oregano have of Methane emissions by cows?

Much of the methane that comes from cows are from their burps. Tests conducted in the dairy barns at Pennsylvania State University showed that a diet with oregano supplements successfully reduced the amount of methane released by cows without causing any harm to them. The oregano-based diet lowered methane emissions from lactating cows by 40 percent and also helped the cows produce more milk everyday. Scientists are not sure what ingredient in the oregano produces this effect, but they are trying to do more studies so that they can create a purer supplement.
