Since the previous post didn’t answer your question at all, I will. The effect on the environment depends on what kind of a recreational facility. Something like a park with a playground would obviously have less impact than say a major gym or sports stadium. Also, are these recreational facilities providing outdoors/physical activities, or is it something like an arcade with video games? I believe the best answer would be that the more outdoor-oriented the facility is, the less impact it may have on the environment; many of said activities experience nature rather than push it aside for something else. If anything, a recreational facility, like a gym, would use up about as much space as any other large building.
