Plastic bags are made from oil and other chemicals to improve performance. Therefore, they do not only increase our dependency on fossil fuels, but they also poison us with their toxins. Some of these toxins are:

lead, cadmium, mercury, and carcinogens like DEHP

They can also disrupt endocrine functions in the body which can in turn lead to cancers, birth defects, immune system suppression and developmental health problems in children.

It is for this reason that it is not advisable to store food in plastic bags or containers as these toxins leach into the food and make it easier for humans to ingest.

Not only does this affect humans, it also affects animals who end up eating plastic bags dumped as trash at sea or in landfills.
