As part of NASA’s Alternative Aviation Fuel Experiment II (AAFEX II), a chicken fat-based jet fuel was tested. The fuel, called Hydrotreated Renewable Jet Fuel, was to be used as fuel in a NASA DC-8 aircraft. Hydrotreated Renewable Jet Fuel was not developed by NASA, however; it has been used successfully in various other aircraft, including by an F-16CM Fighting Falcon, one of which recently used a 50/50 mixture of regular jet fuel and the biofuel.
